How To

How can you apply 5S to your office?

Your first step in making your workplace more efficient and productive is to organize everything. A neat desk, tidy space, and well-organized workspace are key to productivity. The five S's, Sort, Shine. Sweep. Separate. and Store, work together to make sure that every inch of space can be used efficiently and effectively. These steps will be covered one-by-one and how they can work in any kind of setting.

  1. Sort. Don't waste your time looking for things you already know are there. You need to put your things where you use them the most. Keep it near the spot where you most often refer to it. You need to think about whether or not you really have to keep it around.
  2. Shine.Keep your belongings neat and orderly so that you spend less time cleaning up after yourself. You should get rid of any items that could be harmful or cause injury to others. Find a safe way to store pens that you don't want anyone else to see. It might mean investing in a pen holder, which is a great investment because you won't lose pens anymore.
  3. Sweep. Regularly clean surfaces to keep dirt from building up on furniture and other household items. To keep surfaces as clean as you can, invest in dusting equipment. You can even set aside a specific area for sweeping and dusting to keep your workstation looking tidy.
  4. Separate. Separating your trash into different bins will save you time when you need to dispose of it. To make it easier to throw away your trash without having to look for it, trash cans are often strategically placed throughout an office. It's a great idea to place trash bags beside each bin, so you don’t have to go through tons of garbage to find what it is.
